Agricultural Support Programme Reaches 500 Farmers Across Taraba

TPFF’s Agro-Logistics and Rural Warehousing Development Programme has achieved a significant milestone, having now reached over 500 smallholder farmers across multiple local government areas in Taraba State. The programme, which was designed in direct response to the persistent challenge of post-harvest losses affecting farming communities across the state, provides farmers with access to improved storage facilities, transportation logistics support, cooperative development assistance, and market linkage services. Participating farmers have reported dramatic reductions in post-harvest losses — in some cases from as high as 40% down to less than 10% — following their adoption of improved storage and handling practices promoted through the programme. The market linkage component has connected farmer cooperatives directly with buyers in urban markets, cutting out exploitative middlemen and significantly increasing the income farmers receive for their produce. TPFF has also worked with partner financial institutions to provide participating cooperatives with access to agricultural loans and input financing, enabling farmers to invest in their operations and improve productivity. Programme coordinators note that women farmers, who make up nearly 60% of programme beneficiaries, have experienced some of the most transformative outcomes, with many reporting that increased income has enabled them to pay school fees, access healthcare, and invest in household improvements. TPFF is currently in discussions with the Taraba State Ministry of Agriculture to explore opportunities for scaling the programme with government support.
