Peace Dialogue Initiative Brings Communities Together in Bali LGA

The Taraba Progressive Frontiers Forum’s Peace and Conflict Resolution Dialogue Programme recently achieved a landmark milestone with the successful facilitation of a major community peace dialogue in Bali Local Government Area — one of the areas in Taraba State that has experienced recurring tensions between farming and herding communities. The dialogue session, which was attended by over 150 participants including farmers, herders, youth leaders, women’s representatives, traditional rulers, and local government officials, was the result of months of careful groundwork, trust-building, and shuttle diplomacy by TPFF’s community engagement team. Participants engaged in frank, structured discussions about the root causes of conflict in the area, including land use disputes, access to water resources, and the breakdown of traditional conflict resolution mechanisms. With the support of experienced mediators, the session produced a comprehensive peace agreement that outlines agreed boundaries, resource-sharing arrangements, and a joint early warning mechanism for managing future disputes before they escalate. A joint community development action plan was also produced, identifying shared priorities including road rehabilitation, water provision, and youth employment. Community leaders signed the agreement publicly, with traditional rulers invoking cultural and religious obligations to honour its terms. TPFF has committed to supporting the implementation of the agreement through regular follow-up visits and monitoring over the next twelve months.
